Surfing For Daisy - Summer Tour - A prologue...

Updated: Aug 5

Sept. 2020, I moved to Asbury Park. I hardly knew anyone there. All of my music connections and friends were still in Northern NJ and with the pandemic, a lot of us were connecting more online than in person. But the space and open air of the Atlantic along with the musical bloodlines and pulse of it's history drew me there.
One afternoon, I was taking a walk and bumped into Mike B. (aka Noodles) and his dog, Daisy. I knew Mike a little bit from when we both were in Hoboken but not super well. We crossed paths a couple times at open mics and shows and were fans of each others work. Anyway, we stopped and chatted for a bit and realized we had both recently moved to Asbury Park.
I was still traveling back to Hoboken to host a monthly songwriter-focused event at Finnegan's Pub. I kept hearing about this guy, Nick, from some people that I knew and Nick's friend, Danny, suggested I reach out to him to be part of an event. I did and heard his incredible voice and guitar style for the first time.
At the same time, Mike discovered Nick performing at Homesick and Lola's in Asbury Park and they started jamming and writing songs together. That was how their project, Surfing for Daisy, was born. (Fun fact: Nick had a dog growing up called Daisy too, hence the band name!)
Over the next few years, they developed their sound and brought on what is now the full line-up. I knew early on that they had something special — as did anyone with ears — and I booked them for various events and opportunities with The Latest Noise, including our Live at NLK Studio episode.
I would help them out with sound, snap some photos, record audio and take videos. Whatever was needed to capture their music and help them grow. This led to some more coordinated work with them on early tours and when they invested in an in-ear monitoring system, I took on another role, helping them have a consistent sound and really be able to hear one another on stage.
The past year has brought incredible homecoming shows at Sea Hear Now and The Stone Pony, a December tour to Portsmouth, NH, back-to-back sold out shows at the Mercury Lounge in New York City and a spring tour. SFD planned their summer tour, Don’t Quit Your Day Job, with stops at the Mile of Music Festival in Appleton, Wisconsin and Chicago’s Lollapalooza before continuing south to Decatur through Nashville, Asheville and finishing up in Charlottesville.
That's where you find me on the tour. I'll be posting some updates along the way as I document my travels. Here's a couple pics from the first show at Houdini Plaza in Appleton, WI. Enjoy!
